LibGuides Best Practices

Standards for creating useful, usable, and accessible guides.

Guide Owners & Editors

Take responsibility for your guide and collaborate with others.

Quick Reference for Guide Owners & Editors

  • Guide Owners — Guide owners are responsible for making sure their guides conform to our best practices.
  • Editors — Assign editing permissions to other LibGuides users to allow for easy collaboration on your guides.

Getting There

  1. Log into LibGuides https://usfca.libapps.com/libguides/.
  2. Select  Content > Guides and click the Edit  icon for the guide you want to update.
  3. Click the Guide Information icon  to assign Guide Editors and save your options.

Guide Owners

Creators of guides are automatically assigned ownership. Owners and editors (and system admin) are the only users that have permissions to edit your guide.

Guide owners are responsible for all content on their guide. Before publishing, make sure your guide:

  • Conforms to our Usability & Accessibility standards — Your guide should be easy to use and accessible to everyone.
  • Meets all requirements on our Publishing Checklist — This helps ensure consistency and completeness before publishing.
  • Includes your profile box on the landing page of the guide — Having your contact information on your guide makes it easy for users to contact you if they have questions.

Editors

Assigning editing privileges to other LibGuides users makes it easy to collaborate with library staff members or student workers. Editors are able to add/edit/delete content on guides, as well as change guide options and publication status.
