Alexander Street

Alexander Street video and audio content can be integrated into Canvas or web pages in two ways: linking via permanent links  (permalinks) or LTI (Learning Tools Interoperability). Both are provided for video and audio content, playlists, and clips in all Alexander Street collections.

Alexander Street Press ebooks can integrated by linking to the catalog record (see below).

Permanent links or Permalinks

Link to the catalog record

  1. Search for the video you want to look to in the library catalog.
  2. Copy the link to the catalog record and paste it into Canvas or your web page.

Embed videos in Canvas

  1. Navigate to the video you want to link to and click on Embed/Link under the video.
  2. Copy and paste the embed code into Canvas.

embed coode

Do not use the URL displayed in your Web browser's address bar. If you are copying a link into Canvas, insert it as plain text and not as a Web link, and be sure not to add any spaces to the inserted text.

LTI in Canvas

The LTI (Learning Tools Interoperability) app is designed to allow instructors to easily find and embed Alexander Street videos into Canvas pages for on and off campus viewing. You may add an LTI link to a Canvas course in two different ways: as an Assignment or as an external tool URL within a Module.

Add an LTI Link to an Assignment

  1. Navigate to the video you want to link to and click on Share at the top.
  2. Click Copy Permalink for your selected video.
  3. In your assignment, under Submission Types > External Tool, after Enter or find an External Tool URL, enter the copied permalink

Add an LTI Link to a Module

  1. Navigate to the video you want to link to and click on Share at the top.
  2. Click Copy Permalink for your selected video.
  3. In Canvas, add an item to your module by clicking on the + next to your module name.
  4. In the pop-up window, change the drop-down menu to Add an External Tool.
