About Library Instruction

The library instruction program of Gleeson Library supports the teaching and learning goals of the campus. Our focus is to assist with the integration and teaching of information literacy throughout the student experience while at USF, with the aim to empower students to think critically about information. Instructors can request a librarian to come teach an instruction session that covers how to do research using library resources, developing topics, ethically using information, and more. Contact us to collaborate with a librarian to develop a session or content that is tailored for your class or assignment.

Class Instruction

Instructors can request a librarian to teach an instruction session that covers how to do research using library resources, developing topics, ethically using information, and more. We collaborate with instructors to create customized sessions that are tailored for your class. Due to the time it takes to schedule and prepare for instruction sessions, we request at least 2 weeks advance notice. We ask that instructors are present with their class during the session.

Assignment Design

Interested in scaffolding research skills throughout the semester for your course? Looking for new ways to teach the research process beyond a single library session? Librarians can meet with you to collaborate and design activities to scaffold research skills and information literacy into your course, as well as consult on asynchronous and synchronous lesson plans.

Collaborations can include:

  • Designing or revising assignments, activities, or workshops to encourage research skills
  • Recommending or embedding online learning objects or Canvas modules
  • Finding and adapting Open Educational Resources
