Course Reserves

Reserves are course materials your instructor has made available for you to use.

Accessing Course Reserves

Access to Electronic Reserves materials (e.g. ebooks, electronic articles, and streaming media) requires a myUSF username and password. Electronic Reserves are accessible at any time.

  1. Find — Locate the Course Reserves page for your course using the above search box.
  2. Select — Click the title of the material on the Course Reserves page.
    1. Materials with View or Print in the title field will open an electronic document in PDF format. If you do not have software on your device to open PDFs, consider downloading Adobe Reader.
    2. Materials with only the title in the title field will open a catalog record. Once on the catalog record, click the link under Available online to access the material.

Physical materials are located at the Library Help Desk and are checked out for the loan period selected by the faculty member. Students are required to present their valid USF ID card when borrowing Course Reserves material. Students may borrow up to two Course Reserves materials at one time.

  • Bookings — If students need Course Reserve materials on a specific day or time, they may book them. Bookings on materials can be done over the phone or in person at the Library Help Desk. If a booked item has not been picked up within 15 minutes of the booking time, the item may go to another student.
  • Loan Periods — Faculty will select one of the following loan periods for each physical item placed on Course Reserves:
    • Library Use Only (LUO) — Materials are borrowed for two-hour periods and must be used in the library. They do not circulate overnight.
    • Two Hour — Materials are borrowed for two-hour periods and may be taken outside the library. They may be borrowed for overnight use one hour before the library closes and are due one hour after opening the following day.
    • Three Hour — Materials are borrowed for three-hour periods and may be taken outside the library. They may be borrowed for overnight use two hours before the library closes and are due one hour after opening the following day.
    • 24 Hour — Materials are borrowed for twenty-four hour periods and may be taken outside the library.
    • One Week — Materials are borrowed for one week and may be taken outside the library.

Note: Not all faculty place materials on Course Reserve. All materials that are on Course Reserve are removed at the end of the semester and are placed on only after a faculty’s request.
