About Me

Born and raised in Brazil, I have spent my adult life in San Francisco. I have a law degree from the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul, a Master of Laws from Golden Gate University and a Library Technology Certificate from the City College of San Francisco, where I discovered my passion for cataloging. I had worked in San Francisco law firms for many years and felt that cataloging was the area where I could apply my legal skills and experience into the library arena.

Work

I took various cataloging courses offered by different outfits; worked as the Cataloging and Acquisitions Coordinator for the Academy of Art University Library and as a Classification Specialist for the Stanford University Libraries.

I joined the Gleeson Library | Geschke Center in September 2022 and am primarily responsible for cataloging monographs and continuations. I am a linguist at heart and working with metadata brings me much joy. Knowing that my behind-the-scenes work helps students, professors and researchers access resources is my motivation. Professionally, I am interested in the ethics of library cataloging and classification, reparative and inclusive description, critical cataloging and aspects of copyright as they relate to libraries. I am especially interested in the global efforts towards knowledge organization and information discovery.

Interests

I have a broad range of interests; I have worked in producing school musical theater, volunteered as an archivist for a San Francisco non-profit organization which teaches kids how to dance, and have dabbled in studying particle physics, among other things. I enjoy listening to Brazilian music, watching movies, visiting the rich array of San Francisco museums, traveling, gardening, drawing and painting, knitting and crocheting, cooking, and, of course, reading!
