  • Can be a good starting point for the research process
  • Good for getting a general idea of where to start and points you want to make
  • Can suggest who the main scholars or experts in the field are so you can look them up
  • AI can supplement but not replace the complex nature of research
  • The library provides access to subscription based databases that allow students to be able to read a wider depth of scholarly articles
  • AI can hallucinate information and give you inaccurate information, citations, or sources that don't exist
  • AI tools can help with simple editing or checking language
  • Can translate text into other languages
  • It is limited in explaining your own understanding of a topic and using your own writing style
  • You will need to abide by your professor's AI policies
  • Can be helpful as a study tool
  • Good to generate ideas or find quotes from specific texts
  • Can translate dense academic articles into more easier to understand language
  • Can generate study questions to help you study 
  • It doesn't always provide accurate information from texts
  • It is not always reliable to access and not all tools are freely available
  • These AI tools are owned by private companies and benefit from your intellectual property without compensating you for your labor, ideas, or consent

  • Semantic Scholar: Semantic Scholar is a free, AI-powered research tool for scientific literature, based at the Allen Institute for AI.
  • Gemini: Gemini gives you direct access to Google AI. Get help with writing, planning, learning, and more.
