This is the homepage for the Gleeson Library Social Justice and Online Instruction Internship which was completed in Fall 2024

Searching Strategy

Students will be equipped to apply tactics such as Keywords, Boolean Operators, Truncation, Limiters, Title and Author Searches effectively in their Searching Strategy.

Keywords

In this video we will construct a list of keywords from a research question, recall where to locate keywords from a journal article, and illustrate conducting a search using those keywords to find resources for your research assignment.

Boolean Searches

Are your searches not quite bringing back the results you're looking for? We'll string phrases of keywords together using quotation marks, Boolean operators such as AND/OR/and NOT, and parentheses to point your search in a laser focused direction.

Truncation

Truncation and wildcards can drastically impact the search results we see. We will identify the root of a word, differentiate which symbol to use, and describe the truncation methods for the results you need.

Limiters

We will list what limiters are available when searching with Fusion and apply them in our research strategy to filter our results, bringing back articles that will fulfill any research assignment criteria.

Title and Author Searches

We will illustrate when a title or author search is appropriate then use Fusion to search for a specific title and a specific author's work.
